How To Get Your D-59 Contractors License

If you’re reading this you probably want your Contractor License.

That’s great because we’re a contractor license school and happen to know a lot about how you can do just that. 

BUT WHAT YOU NEED TO GET YOUR D-59 LICENSE?

The number one regret I hear from students at the school is not starting earlier. Spending years working for someone else when they could have been making the money themselves. 

Why, you ask?

Because it’s that easy to get started. 

There’s only three requirements:

1. Must have 4 years of experience doing D-59 work

2. Must be over 18

3. Must have a valid SSN or ITIN

PASS A STATE TEST

Phew. We made it through the requirements. 

Now let’s get into the real thing you want to know. 

The CSLB Law and Business test. 

This is the exam you need to pass in order to receive your license. 

Now I don’t want to sugar coat it like I would my pies. 

This test is hard. 

Mostly because it was written by lawyers and lawyers like to make things more difficult than they need to be. 

So that means unless you have years of experience studying law then you may not be prepared for this test. 

But that’s ok!

Because there’s plenty of resources available to you.

How do you verify your experience?

How long does it take?

We recommend you send your application out 1 month into the course. This allows you ample time to go through the course, get every lesson then move on to the license exam.

Now I understand you want to get your license as soon as you can. So here’s how it usually goes. 

After you submit the application the CSLB must process your application which takes 4-8 weeks. 

Once they get back to you, you’ll schedule your test and the rest is history. 

 Of course you should use this time to setup your business and study. That way once you receive your license you’re ready to go and there’s nothing else to do. 

What’s the best business entity?

One letter, one word. 

S Corp. 

 They’re the best for any small business but also the best for contractors becauese you don’t need to pay extra for insurance. 

The Contract Bond

This is only necessary after you pass the test. You got time. Plus it’s easy to obtain once you pass the test anyway.
