How To Get Your D-42 Contractors License

 I appreciate all your work.

Because without D-42 contractors I would never know the wholesale at my local furniture store.

And I just stocked my sons dorm.

So for that I thank you.

BUT WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET YOUR D-42 LICENSE?

There’s only three requirements:

1. Must have 4 years of experience doing D-42 work

2. Must be over 18

3. Must have a valid SSN or ITIN

4. Bring pizza to class…

Well I may have been lying about that last one.

But pretty easy right?

At the end of the day if you have 4 years of experience you nearly have your license.

For more information regarding the requirements go to the CSLB website.

PASS A STATE TEST

Wait. Did I say a measily test.

I meant this may be the hardest test of all time.

But that’s not to worry. We’re here to help.

The test is written by lawyers. Lawyers who have studied law and then used that knowledge to put it into 125 questions.

But we have our own secret weapon.

We wrote our cirriculum with other lawyers.

So that you can be more than equiped to pass the test and receive your license. AND be a successful contractor.

CONTRACTOR LICENSE SCHOOL

Our passion is your success.

Here’s how we do it.

1. Homestudy – Where you teach yourself using different books, videos and online materials.
2. Online – Tune into our live classes and participate online.
3. In Class – Join one of our schools for in person lessons and attention.

We’ve designed each course in a way you get everything you need in a way you best learn.

For example if you prefer learning from an instructor in person then the in person class would be best.

If you can learn on your own, then the homestudy is best.

How do you verify your experience?

You’re probably thinking to yourself.. “how do I verify my 4 years of experience?”

Well good thing I can read your mind.

Here’s the steps:

1. Receive Application upon enrollment

2. Complete application with basic information

3. Sign work experience

4. Submit and schedule test

5. PARTY!

That’s essentially how you schedule your test, verify your experience and attatch your license to your business all in one step.

This is very important (obviously).

Attatched below is an example of the application for work experience.

You’ll notice the section for a signature. You have multiple options but the best to shoot for is a licensed contractor.

How to verify your work experience in order to get your California Contractor License

How long does it take?

The average time is 3 months if you stay diligent.

This looks like 1 month throught the course then sending your application.

The CSLB will take 4-8 weeks to process your application before getting in touch with you to schedule your test date.

During that time it is best to prepare your business by setting up your corporation and studying for the test.

What’s the best business entity?

The best business entity for contractors is the S Corp.

Essentially you save on taxes with extra protection.

The Contract Bond

The Contractor bond also known as Surety bond isn’t needed until after you pass the exam.

Costs roughly $150 to obtain.

Finally

That’s a lot of information to throw at you.

But all you need to remember is to get started.

That’s the important part.

Because if you never get started you’ll never get your license.
