How To Get Your D-39 Contractors License

Without D-39 contractors we would all be living in hobbit holes.

At least that’s my theory.

Really what I’m saying is we need you guys.

So here’s how you can get your

BUT WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET YOUR D-39 LICENSE?

 Good News!

There’s only three requirements:

1. Must have 4 years of experience doing D-39 work

2. Must be over 18

3. Must have a valid SSN or ITIN

That’s it. Super simple.

Once you meet all these requirements then you nearly have your license.

Chances are you already meet these requirements.

Maybe you have for a while and never decided to get started.

Let’s see what we can do about that.

If you’d like some more information on the requirements check out the CSLB website.

PASS A STATE TEST

If you made it this far you probably meet the requirements.

Now time for level-2.

The ‘Law and Business Exam’

That’s right if you want to be a killer D-39 Scaffolding Contractor you need to pass a killer test.

And I don’t use that word lightly.

This test is hard. So hard I’ve seen grown men cry just at the thought of it.

But don’t fear. There’s a solution.

CONTRACTOR LICENSE SCHOOL

If you were to take this exam today. You probably wouldn’t pass.

And that’s ok. You just don’t have the proper experience/training in law.

The exam was written by lawyers for the very reason of upholding a high standard in that regard.

So unless you have studied, contract law, bonds, liens, taxes, etc. then you may not do very well.

That’s where we come in. The Contractor License School.

Our sole purpose is to help you pass this test. You could say our passion is your success.

But how do we do it?

1. Homestudy – Where you teach yourself using different books, videos and online materials.
2. Online – Tune into our live classes and participate online.
3. In Class – Join one of our schools for in person lessons and attention.

The good thing is you only need to prepare for one test opposed to the C license where you need to pass an additional trade.

In that case you can get to taking the test very quickly.

Go ahead and give us a call if you have any questions.

How do you verify your experience?

The first question you probably think of when you learn about the experience is
‘How do I verify my experience.’

Well that’s a great question. Here’s how it works.

1. Receive application (upon enrollment)

2. Fill out application with basic personal/ business information.

3. Have application signed.

4. Submit and schedule test.

5. Pass and Celebrate!

That is pretty much it. Of course if it were that simple then everyone would have their license.

Except it pretty much is that simple. And a lot of contractors don’t have it or are working illegally.

Below is a sample portion of the application.

You can see that is how you will verify your experience and ultimately shcedule your test.

If you have more specific questions feel free to ask.

How to verify your work experience in order to get your California Contractor License

How long does it take?

On average it takes 3 months to get your license from start to finish.

That being said I know you want to get it as quickly as possible so you can start taking jobs and make money.

But once you send off your application the CSLB takes 4-8 weeks to process before they get back to you.

So there is lots of waiting.

During that time we recommend studying and preparing the business. That way once you get your license there’s nothing else to do.

What’s the best business entity?

Not all corporations are built the same. Just like contractors. (but of course you’re the best)

S Corps are best for contractors and small businesses alike.

We break this down more during the course.

The Contract Bond

Yes. You need a bond.

No. Not until AFTER you pass the exam.

It is easy to obtain and only costs roughly $150 to obtain.

How much does it cost?

Good question.

Depending on which course you get it can affect the total cost.

You can view our page on the contractor license fees for more information.

The application fee depending on corporation status can cost from $400-650. In addition to your bond you will also need a live scan which can be done from anywhere for roughly $65.

Finally

I just threw a lot of information at you.

Of course that may not all stick. That’s ok.

The most important thing is to start.

From there you will learn the next steps.
