How To Get Your D-21 Contractors License

Machinery is important. 

Just as important as the air you breath. 

But not as important as you getting your license. 

BUT WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET YOUR LICENSE?

 Your initial thought was probably ‘this is going to be difficult’ 

And you’re right. But it doesn’t need to be that way. 

There are three requiremetns you must fulfill in order to get your license. 

1. Must have 4 years of experience doing D-21 work

2. Must be over 18 

3. Must have a valid SSN or ITIN 

Let’s be honest. You probably have 4 years of experience. In fact you probably have much more than that. It’s probably longgg past time for you to get your license. So why wait? 

If you meet the requirements then there’s just one more thing you have to do.

PASS A STATE TESTS

This is where the fun begins. 

The largest hurdle getting your license isn’t setting up your business but instead passing the law and business test.

How do you verify your experience?

How long does it take?

On average it takes 3 months from beginning to end.

That’s at least the timeline we recommend. 

But what about the timeline we don’t recommend. 

We do not recommend putting it off for months and never getting your license. 

Instead block out some time to focus on investing in your future. 

A little time and $ results in more freedom and $$$ in the future. 

What’s the best business entity?

Getting into the business world there are lots of confusing things. One of those being the best Business Entity for a contractor. 

To put it simply, it’s the S Corp. 

We put it complicated in the course so you can look forward to that. 

The Contractor Bond

 Yes you need a bond.

Yes you need to pass the exam FIRST. 

One step at a time. 

The bond is easy to obtain. 

What isn’t easy is the test/license. 

So the smart thing to do is get started.

D-21 – Machinery and Pumps Contractor

California Code of Regulations
Title 16, Division 8, Article 3. Classifications

A machinery and pumps contractor installs, removes, modifies or repairs:

• (a) Pumps; conveyors; cranes; dock levelers; various hoisting and material handling equipment and meters.
• (b) Dumb waiters; handicap lifting and assistance equipment; automated speedrail trolley systems for garment hanging.
• (c) Automatic car washing racks and auto body paint finishing booth equipment.

NOTE: Construction of buildings and/or roof structures for this equipment is not included.
