How To Pass Your G-B Test.
Getting your General B “General Contractors” License may be easier than you think.
The only pre-requisite–in other words, the only thing you have to have–is 4 years of experience doing General B type of work. (General B work is ‘rough carpentry’–I’ll paste a link to a more informative definition below, but most-likely, if you’re on this page, you know what a general B contractor does).
Common Questions?
Do I take both tests on the same day? No! You get to choose your testing times. Of course, if you’re feeling confident then you can schedule them on the same day. However, most contractors schedule at least a week break in between tests.
How many questions? The Test ranges from 110 to 120 questions.
How long is the exam? The exam duration is 3.5 hours.
Do I get a calculator? Yes, one will be provided if necessary. As for your personal items, they will be stored until after the exam.

All you need to know.
Test number 1. Law
There are two tests you need to take to get your General B Contractors License. The first one is a construction law test written by lawyers. It includes topics on contract law, bonds, taxes and liens. Loads of fun right.
Test Number 2. Trade
Now the second test is much easier, it is on the specific trade you are getting. This test will contain topics related to your trade. That being said it is typically much easier because, unlike the law, you work your trade every day. And have at least 4 years of experience so you’re experienced and ready to go.
How do I get started?
Our job at the contractor License School is to make sure you are equipped to take the test and become a successful contractor. We help you every step of the way. From educating you to pass your test, setting up your business entity, and advertising, we want to be a resource for you.
But first, there are a few things you should know…
1. You need to have 4 years of experience (the hardest part)
2. Must be 18 years or older (the easiest part)
3. Must have an SSN or ITIN (the average difficulty part)
Once you have these things there’s nothing stopping you from getting your license. Well other than massive learning. But don’t worry you have professional teachers who will help you get that done. Plus you’ll have all the resources necessary to take you to the next level. Like a cheat code in Pacman, except in real life.
What about the APPLICATION?
Once you’re ready to take the test, we’ll help you send an application to the CSLB (Contractor State License Board). This is when the real quest starts. You’ve finished you’re training and on the way to slaying the dragon (AKA the exams).
It will take the CSLB 6-8 weeks to get back to you. Once they do you will be able to choose your test date and location close to you.
